Finding your 'Ikigai'- Your reason for being!

Do all spheres of our life make us happy? Or are there some aspects that we need to work on? Are there areas in our life that need fulfilling or are we content with finding happiness in only a few? Do some of us focus more on love, passion and family where others may focus more on vocation, profession and earning enough to support oneself and family. This 'Ikigai' diagram, which is a Japenese concept, shows us that we need to find a balance in our lives where all areas matter so that we find peace, purpose, happiness and meaning in our lives.

Ikigai is a lifestyle that serves to balance the spiritual with the practical. This balance can be found where your passions, and what you are good at, come together with what the world needs and what you can be paid for. We all want a life of meaning and love but we also want to have a certain lifestyle that requires money. We need money to live but we also don't want our work to consume us so that we lose focus on the things we truly care about.

Does money lead to fulfilment? Or do you first need to find what you are passionate about to give your life true meaning? Once you have found your passion, try to find the medium through which you can express this. Is work the most important thing in your life at the moment? Does your family come first? What are your goals for a better and more fulfilled life? Do you have the right balance? Are all those things that are important to you connected in some way and do they give your life meaning? These are the sort of questions you can ask yourself. Use this 'Ikigai' to strive for the balance you need to make your life as meaningful and as joyful as you want it to be.
